David's career started in 1987 in Credit and Capital Markets at Bankers Trust. He joined Arthur Robinson & Hedderwicks in 1991 and became a qualified solicitor. In 1993, David joined Lloyds Corporate Advisory Services (later renamed Centaurus Corporate Finance), the pre-eminent boutique corporate advisory firm in Australia at the time. This firm specialised in takeovers, mergers, acquisitions and divestments and corporate and investment/strategic market advice to major Australian listed companies.

After Merrill Lynch acquired Centaurus Corporate Finance in 1997, David transferred to Singapore and became Head of Merrill Lynch's South East Asia Corporate Finance Group and a member of the Financial Institutions Group. In 2002, he transferred back to Australia and became Head of Merrill Lynch's Melbourne office. In 2008, David was appointed Head of the Multi Industries Group (Healthcare, Gaming, Consumer and Retail, Food and Technology). He was also Head of the Mergers & Acquisitions Group from 2009 to 2010.

Over a twenty two year period at Centaurus Corporate Finance and Merrill Lynch, David was the lead adviser on a number of major takeovers, sales, acquisitions and restructures and capital markets transactions (initial public offers, primary issues, secondary sell downs, buy-backs and capital reductions) in a variety of industry sectors.

David's transaction experience includes:

  • mergers and acquisitions: Newcrest Mining Limited's takeover of Lihir Gold Limited, Mayne Pharma Limited's takeover by Hospira Inc., CSL Limited's acquisition of Aventis Behring, United Overseas Bank's takeover of Overseas Union Bank, the sales of CSL Limited's JRH Biosciences and Animal Health divisions, the sale of Joe White Maltings
  • initial public offers: as joint lead manager, Spark Infrastructure Trust, Healthscope Limited and Asaleo Care Limited.

Over an extensive corporate advisory and investment banking career, David has advised major Australian and international listed companies in various industry sectors on both significant corporate and capital markets transactions and day to day equity market matters. This experience means that David is highly qualified to provide independent strategic corporate advice.

David joined Stratford Advisory Group in 2016 and lives in Melbourne.
